Probably. I wasn't in the Institute last night, but these people (http://community.livejournal.com/damned_bulletin/494002.html) seem to think it was him. If you're new here, he's -- or maybe he was -- the Head Doctor, the one responsible for locking all of us up here.

You're leaving out the last word in that phrase - 'sponsorship.' It's vague, is the problem. There's no way to tell whether they meant to give some kind of training or just fund it. Still, those are two options open to investigation, if we assume that the announcement this morning was legitimate and not a false lead.

That's true. It sounds like the tour was for potential sponsors, though. At least we have some kind of idea what the purpose of this place might be, if it's not a false lead like you said.

The only federal training I know of is for...well...government employees. I used to get fliers and brochures in the mail....

But it was for things like desk jobs and public service jobs. Nothing that would apply here....

I'm thinking it might have been a mistake, but that begs the question of why Lydia didn't come on later and say something. You'd think they wouldn't want us hearing something like that, so they would make some kind of effort to cover their tracks.

I'm surprised, frankly, at the lack of a covering announcement. It sounds as if this was a recording meant for someone else - perhaps a government organization funding this place. I wouldn't think they would let that go so easily.

...it also begs the question of whether the acronym used is simply that, or whether 'Iris' is a person's name. If so, who is she, and what role does she have in all of this?

They were mentioning a woman that Landel and Doyle talked about last night over the intercom. Could be Iris. Or it could be completely unrelated. We don't have enough information.

It seems likely that IRIS is the name of the automated system, rather than any flesh and blood person. Whether the designation's genuinely an acronym or part of a theme's harder to pin down.

The apparent meaning is clear: Landel's Institute is now running on autopilot, and nobody thought to change the tapes since the last time the Doctor was out. Lydia may be putting out fires, or she may be a red herring Landel can't dangle anymore, or she may be the Fiancée of Frankenstein.

Of course, there's no way to be sure the message is even legitimate. Just because a man on an intercom claims to be a Martian...
