The apparent meaning is clear: Landel's Institute is now running on autopilot, and nobody thought to change the tapes since the last time the Doctor was out. Lydia may be putting out fires, or she may be a red herring Landel can't dangle anymore, or she may be the Fiancée of Frankenstein.

Of course, there's no way to be sure the message is even legitimate. Just because a man on an intercom claims to be a Martian...

That's a good way to put it. If it's really on autopilot and this isn't fake or anything, I wonder if it's more vulnerable now.
