[handwriting is rather poor]

I've become rather curious about something I only recently became aware of, and I was hoping that perhaps the input of others might clarify things somewhat.

What language do you speak now?
What language do you hear others speaking?
What language is this written in?

It's a matter of... some importance to me. If you would be kind enough to answer, I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, my dear human Captain, I was hoping to meet with you again sometime today, if only to prove to myself you weren't a desperate fantasy! Please, let me know what time would be most advantageous for us to... talk again. I do so miss you when we are apart!

Modern English.

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Japanese~

If it were anything else, I wouldn't be able to understand it♥

[identity profile] haiiro-no-chou.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. Aside from a few words in English, I can't understand any other languages...

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm glad I'm not the only one~

One of my enemies used to taunt me in English. I learned to really loathe the language after he started singing to me. ♥

Um, I speak Japanese and passed the third level of the English test, so I can understand some English. Everyone else speaks Japanese though--

Whoa, that's kind of weird. Isn't this place supposed to be in America somewhere?

[identity profile] byname-bynature.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Hm, this is distressing.

I speak English and so does everyone else, from my perspective at least. I assumed, since this place is in America, that everyone would speak and write English. However I have seen some other languages on this board and heard them spoken. But I've never heard anyone speak Japanese here before.

Excuse my ignorance, if it's obvious to someone from Earth, but how do you know we're in America? (And is that indicating that we're on one of the two American continents, or that we're in the United States of?)

I can understand English, but I'm not fluent yet. I only have the third level. I'm studying for the second though...

I'm writing in Japanese right now. I wouldn't be able to communicate this well in any other language yet.

English.

[a little less neat, as if an afterthought]

But I've seen some German on here.

[identity profile] numberii.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
English, an' that's what I hear most people speaking. 'course, I've learned that people tend to talk the same no matter what world I go to, so that's not too surprising to me.

Also, the Cap'n told me a little bit about you. I was wondering if you an' me could meet up at some point. Sounds like you're an interesting person, in more ways than one.

...I wonder. All those years ago, did you understand the language of my old world as being English?

And you're hitting up others, I see.

[identity profile] numberii.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
I bet. But hey, from what I've heard, you're singular in some other ways, so don't feel down, huh?

And yeah, he's quite the specimen. Kinda surprising to see someone like him in a place like this, but I'll just consider myself lucky an' that'll do it. Lookin' forward to seeing the guy he's said so much about. How 'bout... after-lunch shift? I think I'm free then.

Japanese, English and German.

I hear people speaking Japanese though...

[identity profile] grosse-sklaven.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I primarily speak German, and that's what I hear more people speaking... the same as I see most of these writings. Yet I've also seen Japanese and English as well, and some other languages that I couldn't puzzle out.

I still haven't figured out how everyone can understand each other in at least one language. I only know that it's been this way for as long as I can remember.

Japanese--Osaka-ben of course! Although I'm fluent in English as well, but nobody really seems to speak it he

SON OF A BITCH, WHY DIDN'T I SEE THAT?! It makes absolutely no sense for everyone to speak Japanese in an institute in America! Holy fuck, what the hell is going on here?

No wonder more people aren't annoyed by my accent...

[identity profile] willhexabitch.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Something like that's just hitting you?

[identity profile] osakapwnzu.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well, uh, considering I really only associate with people who rationally speak Japanese? Yeah.

Looks like English to me, which is what I speak and hear when talking to others. I don't think it's so strange we can all understand each other, though. There's probably technology for that sort of thing somewhere out there, right? I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I have spoken French while staying here, but most of what I have heard has been in Japanese. I understand several languages, but Japanese is the last one I used predominantly. It does seem curious now though, that so many clearly non-Japanese people who don't seem to have a reason to be educated in the language would speak with such fluency.

As I've already told you, I speak and hear and read English.

Everyone else here seems to be hearing/reading/speaking their predominate language as well, though; it's not solely your own affliction. Don't let it get to you; you're not going to be able to escape this place if you're falling apart at the mental seams.

I suppose we could meet again. At the next meal, maybe? There are a couple things I want to explain to you about human culture, like how very creepy you are when.

And I'm not your dear anything. And it's going to be just talking. All right?

As I've said: anyone in your situation would be strained. Not your fault that it overwhelmed you, and you pulled yourself back together admirably quickly.

Well, you certainly raised interest in the subject. [An arrow is drawn in the general direction of Mello's posts] And whoever was asking seems to have puzzled out what's going on, though it's to be seen if he/she's right.

It's the possesive "my" that it's embarrasing It implies reciproc just don't, all ri I'll explain when we meet.
No, I didn't have anything else in mind.
Writing in smaller letters implies that whatever's written is an afterthought, or intended to be less noticeable, or addressed to a smaller audience, or "said" sotto voice. It's not necessary to reply in kind.

I speak American English. I hear everyone else speaking British English. This seems to be written in English.

[identity profile] high-prosecutor.livejournal.com 2008-03-31 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I speak American English and some German, though I wouldn't call myself fluent in the latter. I also know a bit of Japanese, but it's very basic - primarily terms you'd use while traveling.
