Shortly after Emund the Old began his reign in Uppsala. What that might be in the Christian reckoning everyone uses, I can't begin to guess.

Unfortunately, yes, I'm afraid I don't recognize any of the proper names you are using.

Apparently Uppsala is in a modern country called Sweden.

[identity profile] fuukaenbujin.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. Perhaps my knowledge of the history of Sweden is incomplete, because I still cannot place which century an 'Emund the Old' could have ruled.

It's quite understandable. Though I assume that in modern times my countrymen no longer go a-viking. So perhaps that will give you an impression of the appropriate level of antiquity.

[identity profile] fuukaenbujin.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. It does, thank you. Though it makes me wonder from exactly how far back or forward they've pulled people from.

There seems to be quite the range. But time and space are also very mutable concepts.

[identity profile] fuukaenbujin.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll admit, that is an idea I'm rather new to. Mostly toward the concept of time, but still.

In any case, I imagine it would be rather difficult for some people to get back to their own times.

Theory states that every doorway can be reversed as long as there has not been a critical point passed.

[identity profile] fuukaenbujin.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Theoretically, yes. But only theoretically. I don't suppose anyone here knows exactly how they got here.

Incidentally, how long have you been here, if you don't mind me asking?

[personal profile] complicatedliar 2011-12-11 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't believe that the exact mechanism is known, though again, theoretically one could work out the method but not necessarily the arcane bits that made it possible.

Oh, I've only just arrived. I'm not at all useful for information at the moment, but most people here have been quite helpful and sweet about it.

[identity profile] fuukaenbujin.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, then we are in the same position. I've only just arrived myself.

And I suppose so. Evidently, that method has not been found yet.

[personal profile] complicatedliar 2011-12-11 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Allow me to welcome you, then. I recommend the waffles.

[identity profile] fuukaenbujin.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you kindly.

Waffles. I didn't expect that one.

I found them most unexpected as well. Geometric food. Fascinating.

[identity profile] fuukaenbujin.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, you'd mentioned the century you were from. You'd be surprised what sorts of modern foods they've come up with.

If you're recommending them, then I suppose I'm glad that there's at least one good thing about this place.

Bloody Norsemen.

[personal profile] complicatedliar 2011-12-11 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I apologize. Have we raped and/or pillaged in your vicinity recently?

[identity profile] teabastard.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Not in the last thousand years. That lot are far more concerned with making good quality yet affordable flat pack furniture these days.
complicatedliar: (nice try)

[personal profile] complicatedliar 2011-12-11 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Then no need to get snippy. But I'm glad to hear we've put all those axes to a much more constructive use.

[identity profile] teabastard.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
My, you really are Swedish aren't you?
complicatedliar: (sideways glance)

[personal profile] complicatedliar 2011-12-11 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
You're quite adorable. I'd offer you some lutefisk, but I seem to be fresh out.

[identity profile] teabastard.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No thankyou. I've learned to avoid foods that dissolve the containers they're kept in. I never did understand what Norway saw in the stuff.
complicatedliar: (so very unimpressed)

(strikes very readable)

Those in the kingdoms of Noreg seem to prefer hakarl more, in my experience. One can only hope that they've modified their tastes.
