I think that "dreams" are the metaphor we're using...

In my dreams last night, there was a creature who disguised itself as a dear friend, and who used his stolen face to brutally injure another friend of mine. Is this a common theme? How does one know if they are faced with friend or foe? Other than the teeth.

I encountered one the night before last. The only reason I knew the real one was that I was with her when we found the duplicate. I do not know if there's any way of telling the difference, but apparently its existence came as a surprise to others who have been here longer. My mention of it was the first they'd heard.

I hope your friend is alright.

Wait, it took a form of someone not even here? Or merely someone who wasn't with you at the time?

I see. I will continue to hope that your friend is healing, then. If I can help, let me know?

It's happened before.

More importantly, it is not the same incident as you've mentioned, or the one described above. Three different encounters so far.

Know yourself, and know your loves.

Something horrible stole my skin the other night. Bit into the flesh and she herself screaming.

If you can, look at their spirit. Or soul. Or whatever you want to call it. It probably won't be the same, but I can't say for sure. I haven't run in to one yet.

We'll have to think of something else, then.

Even if you could, it likely wouldn't help here. The thoughts of staff and doctors are blocked off here; chances are humanoid monsters are under the same sort of protection.

A friend of mine said he 'dreamed' about someone close to him at night, but hasn't seen her since. And it sounds like maybe he ran into the thing you did.

There was a creature that disguised itself as my sister River, and then attempted to rip open my neck.

There doesn't seem to be much recourse for telling the monsters apart from their genuine counterparts...I suppose the best that can be managed is to be cautious.

I've seen something like that before. Not here, but if it's the same kind, there are ways to tell them apart. It just isn't all that easy.

If it were a different kind of shapeshifter, this might not be any use. I wouldn't count on it if you have the same nightmare again.

I'd watch the eyes. They're like an animal's - they reflect glare. Hard to spot if you don't have a video feed, but it's better than nothing.

The ones I know of tend to give themselves away. They're good mimics, but they don't know how to actually be the people they pretend to be. They forget the little details. If you watch for mistakes, you might be able to catch them. You can't count on passwords or shared experiences, though. They can read the memories of the people they mimic.

There aren't any dogs here, are there? Like I said, it's not much.

I don't know if what I saw was the same thing. The person I saw used to be here, but then they disappeared. I saw them again and they had changed into... well, something else. I don't know how you can tell if they're fake or if they're real and have been changed by this place.

Be careful.
