Yes, I have saltpeter. We found it upstairs-- he didn't even know what it was. I also found some other things. They're stored in his room, at the moment.

I'm afraid we didn't find any sulfer or charcoal. Still, charcoal can be made...

It's one of the more useful things in life, if you have fire and oxygen at hand.

... Alpha Cerenkov, yes, I recall. I've even been down on the planet's surface, collecting the Shofixti maidens after Admiral ZEX was slaughtered by a giant flailing green monster. That was several years ago.

Even accounting for differences in physiology, it was a very lethal death. There's no way Admiral ZEX could have survived it, let alone suddenly found himself in a possibly not-so-fake insane asylum. And I'm sure I would've noticed a VUX wandering the corridors I think I would, at least, and

You can't be Admiral ZEX, for several reasons, but mostly because he's been dead for years.

So it is you! Oh, this is wonderful news! I was beginning to think I was completely alone here, as no one seemed to recall anything about the universe as I knew it. Such a thing wears on the mind after a time, you understand.

It's odd how everyone here seems so focused on telling me I'm dead! I assure you, I'm quite alive. Although perhaps not as you remember me.

I'm sure you will concede that this place is not normal, correct? There seem to be certain powers at work here that tend towards the unexplainable, particularly what happens at night. I'm not sure when you arrived here, but I would think it hasn't been too long ago (I certainly hope you have not suffered here long, my darling). I'm sure I would have been able to spot you, given that I've committed your face to memory. But if you have experienced the night here, then you will know what I am talking about.

While I do remember you bringing me my Beauty, I do not recall much directly afterwards except appearing here, in quite a different state than I... expected, I suppose one could say. You would not have seen a VUX wandering the hallways, more the pity, because I have, somehow, been transferred from my natural body to a human one. I've yet to learn how this was exactly accomplished, but I've spoken with others here who likewise had different bodies before they woke up here, human like all the rest, so I am not a singular case it would seem.

I assure you, while I may be wearing an ill-fitting human disguise, I am still the VUX Admiral that you remember beneath. I'd be quite happy to prove this to you, in any way you may think necessary... perhaps this is something that can only be reliably discerned with some close, personal study? I would not be opposed to such a thing, I assure you.

Please inform me as to what I must do to earn your trust, my Captain. I will gladly do anything you require.
