I will be honest with you, Tsubaki.

I'm accustomed to magicians being distrusted and hated. We're often blamed and attacked for things that we did not do, because we make excellent scapegoats. That was why I chose to not reveal what I am.

Now that it's been so spectacularly shown what thing I am, and in such a nasty way, I have few hopes and little ability to defend myself since I've been diminished again.

But perhaps I am wrong. That would certainly be nice for a change.

You don't owe anybody an explanation for wanting to conceal things like that; at least, I don't have any hard feelings that you didn't tell me personally, if that's something you're worried about.

I can't say what it's like where you come from, but I've met a lot of people here who have some kind of magic. Where I come from, it's used for many bad things, but I know that doesn't include everyone who has it, and so must others who might've had negative experiences with it. There are too many types of special abilities here to make one kind stand out above all the rest, anyway.

No one should cause you trouble over something like that.

I hope that you are right. You would know better than I, since you've been here so long.

The kind of retaliation you're talking about is stupid, no matter where or when. Let this be a reminder for anyone reading this who thinks otherwise.

If it hadn't been you, it would've been someone else, I suppose. It's a shame we didn't get to accomplish our goal, but if you need me, I'll be around.
