I like to tinker with things. Is there some way I could indulge that hobby?

Also, if small personal items have been confiscated by the staff, and you don't think there's any harm in you having them, how would you go about appealing that decision?

It seems we share a hobby, but I find it's best to only dream about such things. After all, tinkering isn't something that would be approved by the staff. I like to keep a list of items I see during the daytime that I'd use for inventing, just to keep my mind active.

I hear there's a room somewhere where they keep our personal possessions. I've been meaning to ask for the location so I can ask my nursemaid to fetch something for me.

The second floor is where personal items are kept, however for obvious reasons the nurses won't allow you to have them any time soon. Also, depending on the nature of your... delusions, you may find that whatever you were thinking of asking for isn't actually real, as it were.
