All of this is necessary to finding out who killed him?

He used a gun as well the Maten Sutra: one of the founding scriptures of Heaven and Earth. He had it here, but it's power is likely negated. He refused to yield to anyone's will, even if they were obviously stronger. And he also wouldn't hesitate to fire first, at an enemy.

Among mortals, the founding scriptures are only given to the most powerful. Additionally, there were countless demons after his life daily, not to mention some gods. So I'd say he had his share of experience in combat, yes.

As far as I am aware, no one from our world here had a grudge against him. But I don't know what enemies or allies he had.

Yeah, it is. The better we can understand how he got his wounds, the easier we can figure out the type who would/could do this to him.

I'd suggest talking with Kenren. Of the people here, he's the one with the most intimate knowledge of Sanzo. Nataku and Tenpou, who are also from our world, only knew his prior incarnation: Konzen Douji.

He was also a smoker. I see it mentioned quite a bit on the common board, so perhaps it holds some relevance.
