History Club

If you haven't already responded to another post, reply here with your condition after last night. Additionally, any interested in taking on a task should leave their name here.

For those who are new, the History Club is a group that focuses primarily on combat, though there are some willing to train those without such experience. Our goals are escape and revenge--though the talk might imply that the latter is out of reach. Regardless, we are still prisoners here, and we are striving to change that. 'Through whatever means necessary,' as it says elsewhere.

Those who initially sign up will be given minor tasks to start. This is so I can judge where you would best fit within the group. I'd prefer to answer any questions here, for those that have them. If you are interested, I will need to know your name, along with any talents you have, particularly regarding combat skills, magic, or medical knowledge.

Taura: I haven't forgotten our appointment. Meet me in the Chapel this shift, if you would. I'm a tall man with dark hair, and a red mark in the center of my forehead.

Kaneyoshi: I might have that gift for your roommate. It seems the one it was intended for is no longer with us.

The newest people are usually set to the task of gathering materials that the group as a whole needs - which includes metals that can be later used in the forging of...well, let's call them 'blankets,' shall we? Every member has gone through this process, including the current officers.

Cool, sounds like some fetch quests with the promise of more awesome stuff later. I'm game. I'd kinda like to spend my first night getting the hang of things, but maybe I can join up with you guys tomorrow night?

Of course, just be certain to sign up and request an assignment. Homura-san posts these notices everyday.

I suggest not traveling alone at night if you can help it, and be sure to be armed.

Got it. I've been warned already that there aren't any do-overs here (still lame), so I'll be careful.

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Do-overs? What do you mean by that?
vstheworld: (do you know the code?)

[personal profile] vstheworld 2009-08-21 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
You know, respawns, extra lives? I'm not even sure if there are save points around anywhere from what people are telling me.

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
...I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about. A person only gets one life, unless you count reincarnation.
vstheworld: (1-up)

[personal profile] vstheworld 2009-08-21 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Nah dude, you can get extra lives if you beat really tough enemies sometimes. I got one for headbutting this bass-playing asshole vegan guy a few months back.

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
...That...sounds interesting. Why would you get extra lives? Did he become your slave or something?
vstheworld: (1-up)

[personal profile] vstheworld 2009-08-21 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
What? No! Why would that happen?

And I dunno. Sometimes it just happens. I'd never gotten a real one before then. The vegan asshole guy disappeared and left behind coins after I beat him like usual, then a picture of my head appeared over where he used to be. I grabbed it, and it poofed with this "1-UP!" kind of noise. It was kinda freaky, but cool too.

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
How else would you gain a life other than receiving one as a debt?

...Someone painted a portrait of you that quickly? And why did he leave coin-- You mugged him? That's hardly very nice of you.
vstheworld: (walk cycle)

[personal profile] vstheworld 2009-08-21 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
You really don't understand? Okay, I'll break it down, then: by "extra life", I mean like if you die, you get to resurrect in either the last place you saved or the last place something important happened. Once you run out of lives, it's Game Over.

Anyway, no, it wasn't painted. It just kind of appeared out of thin air. The coins always just appear out of thin air too. Doesn't that ever happen when you beat bosses (really strong, important enemies if you don't know what that means either)? I thought that was pretty common.

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
...But if you die, you just die. There isn't any coming back and you really only get one chance. Except for here, apparently.

Ah...no. That has never happened to me. When I kill an important enemy, I take their head and we have to present it to the local officials. If it's a really important enemy, sometimes we get paid.

[personal profile] vstheworld 2009-08-21 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, now I'm confused. I have an extra life ready to use in real life, and I was told that it was here that you don't get to respawn when you die. Now you're telling me that it's the opposite? How do you get second chances here?

And dude, gross! You actually cut people's heads off?

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
You don't get a second chance if you die here, but I have heard that there are those who arrived here after having died in their own world.

Of course I do. How else will you display them? The entire body is a bit much to carry bac--

Ah, I think I understand our confusion. What year are you from? I'm from the 1860s.

Oh, okay, that makes more sense. Maybe. This game(?) is all still pretty screwy.

Ahhh, a visitor from the past! Pretty cool, even if you do cut people's heads off (which isn't cool, by the way). It was 2005 last time I checked.

[ :( It's a tricky one; gotta watch it]

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's rather confusing, even after you've been here awhile.

Well, it's either cut their head off or they cut mine off. I rather like my head where it is. 2005, hm? That would explain why I did not understand much of your terminology.
vstheworld: (flowers on the brain)

[personal profile] vstheworld 2009-08-21 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sorry man, I didn't know (you are a man, right? I think Kaneyoshi's a guy's name, but I could just be thinking of Yoshi the Dinosaur). Are lots of other people in this club from as far back as you? I thought "History Club" was just some random name to hide under.

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm male. Not too many people, but most of the founding members were from some period in the past, so we started with this name. You'll notice that most of the club names have some meaning or another attached to them.
vstheworld: (gets it together)

[personal profile] vstheworld 2009-08-21 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well I'm sure my name will go down in history someday for some reason (who knows, maybe there'll even be a comic book), so hopefully I'll fit right in!

So 1860, you're Japanese, and you like to cut people's heads off... Does that make you some kind of ninja/samurai? I fought a couple of those not long ago (one samurai and half-a-ninja!), though they're probably not as badass as ninja and samurai where you come from.

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Comic book? Well, it isn't a prerequisite to be from history or famous, but it would really interesting to meet someone who was.

I am a samurai, yes.

...Samurai still exist in 2005? That's...different from what I heard. And how is one half a ninja? That seems rather difficult, considering how rigorous the path is.
vstheworld: (brain break)

[personal profile] vstheworld 2009-08-21 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
They're not exactly common, but I guess a few are still around. Some are even Chinese, if you can believe that. The guy who attacked me was. He came after me with a big, sharp katana (sharp enough to cut a streetcar in two!) when he found out I'd dated his daughter. He stood down after I beat that half-ninja (and also because of some other thing I did that I won't get into) though.

Speaking of which, beats me what makes a half-ninja, but that's what she kept saying she was. She was blonde and kind of on the fat side. Maybe that has something to do with it?

I...see. The mark of a samurai is not only the sword, you know.

Ah, perhaps her family line married out and she was descended from a ninja clan, but not herself a trained ninja.
