....a friend?

[hesitation marks]

We've only just met today.

We share more than the most obvious, common suffering. I believe that is grounds for friendship, or at least camaraderie.

I... suppose.

[a few pen marks]

I'm not sure how stimulating our conversations would be however, seeing you are just a six.

[identity profile] byname-bynature.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
...I sincerely hope that was supposed to be a joke.

...I'm sorry. I'm not very good at them, apparently.

I was only trying I didn't mean

.........

My apologies.

Schuldig, please... you're not helping me.

And I have no self-preservation instinct and very little common sense, as I've demonstrated time and time again.

.....unfortunately I doubt you've managed to demonstrate it as... effectively as I have.

I jumped on an assassin's back, ran off on my own the second night I was here, and opened a drawer full of hallucinogen. I'm not exactly sure how much more effective one can get.

....I'd rather not talk about my own qualifications.

One also has to take into account what sorts of common sense are evident in various worlds, though. For example, it's common sense in Japan to remove one's shoes before entering a house, but in most other countries we tramp across our carpets in shoes.

[identity profile] emotionl4arobot.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately on Colu, common sense equates with not leaving our homeworld and avoiding contact with other species if at all possible.

I suppose even by my people's standards, I am considered to have little by way of common sense.

That is unfortunate. I've learned a great deal from other species and through studying their technology. And living your life without seeing another country or another world... how tragic.

Well, I suppose I'm glad that you've broken both tenets here.

True, but then where would you get your entertainment from?

[identity profile] byname-bynature.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but I'm smart enough not to taunt you. You'd be demoted to making jokes about my inability to move past holding hands.

[identity profile] byname-bynature.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
Not at all, I can see the humor in it now. You had no way of knowing that I'm very touchy about my intellect being seen as sub-par. It comes with the territory of being fourteen, you see.

To be fair, the average intellect is six. And there will always be such things as outliers, after all.

Fourteen? I'd be interested in learning more about your achievements at some point, if at all possible. Perhaps there are points of similarity.

Yes, perhaps. When you're feeling better, perhaps we should have lunch and discuss. I haven't listed off all of my accomplishments in weeks--it will do me good, I think.

It might also be a much needed break for myself as well. Not to mention I am genuinely interested.

Truly? Well... I shall have to start making a list then, so I don't forget anything important...
