Is gift-giving all too common? Or does the easy giving point to a lack of meaning? It's somewhat strange, and altogether unnerving, to experience from strangers what family won't give.

They say kindness is a virtue, but I'm considering it a curse.

There are some families that don't have a gift-giving tradition, just as there are some cultures where it isn't done either. I believe gift-giving is based more upon the personality and background of the individual, not necessarily the social group they belong to.

All the captives here come from so many different places that it's hard to make an assumption about stuff like that. But if someone you don't know very well gave you a present, it's possible they want to be your friend. :)

I don't think gift-giving is too common. You should cherish that kindness given to you...let it bloom in your heart. A curse can be reversed, you know, with the proper care...

You felt something, did you not, when you were given those gifts? Happiness, joy, love...perhaps even pain...

Let that feeling plant itself within you. Let it take root, and blossom. As it grows, those feelings will guide you...and the curse will find itself reversed.
