I'm his roommate. I thought we were friends but he won't tell me what happened.

He's not handling the trauma of what happened to him well. Don't ask me what they did to him, because I don't know. Trust that in time he may tell you, but don't expect it. There are many things a person won't tell even their closest of friends.
