I know there's plenty of folks from Gotham here, well here's a news flash for ya.

Batman is here

With us. No armour, no weapons, no escape.

[Edit - The notice has been defaced and restored several times but for now it remains legible]

[Edit 2 - Someone has scribbled over the words 'Batman is here' so they're completely illegible. However every other mention of Batman remains.]

Didn't I have this conversation yesterday?

If they didn't, I wouldn't know about the guy, what with him being a totally fictional character where I'm from.

So, who're you? One of his villains?

[there's an arrow back up to "I'm thinking it's a multiple universes thing", which is now circled]

Or you could be loony, either-or.

The city doesn't exist. A lot of the cities in superhero stories don't, where I'm from.

(Seriously, who names cities things like "Gotham" and "Metropolis" anyway?)

As much as I hate to agree with this loser, Gotham's a real place. So Metropolis and Central.

I mean, I know we have the whole 'alternate world' thing here, but they really are real.

In your universe, maybe. In mine, they're about as real as Middle Earth or Narnia.

... We don't have anyone from Middle Earth or Narnia in this place, do we?

...where and where?

Anyway, I dunno about what you might think, but I don't like the idea that you're trying to say I'm fictional or something. I mean, how would you feel about that?

... Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia? Famous fantasy novels?

It'd be one of the more unsettling things I'd ever been told. Not the most unsettling, though. Heck, it wouldn't even be halfway to the strangest.

And like I said, alternate universes. What's real for me might not be real for you. Which still isn't all that strange, in my experience.

Oh, right. I don't have time to read much. Not really my thing.

Hey look, maybe it doesn't seem that weird to you, but someone coming along on the bulletin and telling me that everything and everyone I ever knew was just fiction to them, like it doesn't even mean anything...

It's just not cool, okay?

[identity profile] buteo-sapiens.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
... man, you're right. That was pretty jerky of me. Can I chalk it up to the stress of being here, or is that a lame excuse?

Nah, it's okay. I, uh, kinda did something similar on my first day too, I guess.

Dude, chill. Reality is subjective.

Just because Batman and Gotham are iconic fictional things in my universe, doesn't mean they aren't real in yours.

Who are you, anyway? You're pretty bitter about a guy who dresses up in a bat costume to fight crime and nutjobs in permanent clown makeup.
