To those whom it may concern:

What is the longest gap in memories between you and those you knew from home?

In addition, has anyone noticed any negative after-effects in those who've undergone brainwashing?

My best friend is about eight years older than I remember him being. We both look different too.

[personal profile] tightsofmight 2009-03-27 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. We didn't recognize each other at first. He looks nothing like the one I know, but he has most of the same memories.

The places and times he remembered were different. Apparently a lot of the stuff that happened took place a lot later, and in different ways. He doesn't know all the same people I do, either. The people who died aren't

There's a couple people here who know another older me, and some who don't recognize me at all. I think they're all from different worlds too.

...It's a little messed up.

No problem.

I hadn't thought about that...I'll have to ask them later.

The longest time gap that I've been made aware of between myself and those from my home 'world' is roughly nine years. It's a strange pattern, however; there seem to be two separate gaps in memories.

The first spans two years - my memories come first, my colleague's are a year later, and my...partner's are a year after that.

The second gap is a seven-year one, from what my partner remembers and what the other two people that are here from our home 'world' do.

As for the second question: I'm not sure about there being negative effects after brainwashing, though it's entirely possible. There are certainly negative after-effects after being taken for experimentation, however.

If you'd like, we can discuss this in person at some point?

I'm available at lunch, if you'd like to discuss this then. I'm roughly 6', grey hair, brown eyes. I'll look forward to meeting with you.

I'll look forward to it.

Hey, so, it's kind of normal for there to be gaps, but what about if they remember things different? We're from different times, but we still don't have all the same memories. :(

[identity profile] host-club-honey.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! Like when I asked the others about it, they remembered things in a different order from me. I know I remember it right, I'm really sure, but I can't think of why that would happen.

[identity profile] host-club-honey.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there was something like that too. They said it was me who didn't remember though. But I definitely would have! And there's things that only I remember and maybe Takashi, I haven't really asked him much about it.

[identity profile] high-prosecutor.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope I'm not intruding, but...that's not the first instance I've heard of people having different memories from others, even with the time distortions this place is so fond of.

Really? I don't know a lot about the scientific aspects of things, but it sure reminds me of Back to the Future. Do you think because they're messing with everything, it's causing time to mess up or change or something?

[identity profile] high-prosecutor.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
...I hadn't thought of it quite that way before. Just based on what I know about things, I don't think that time's irrevocably damaged, but I don't know if it's been changed at all. It's a good question...

But you know, it might make sense because they say people keep disappearing and reappearing and that's just like in the movie! Maybe that explains where people keep going!

[identity profile] vessavana.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I, too, have encountered this when dealing with individuals I would otherwise recognize. One of them has postulated that there exist alternate versions of our respective universes, and that, therefore, our acquaintances might be drawn from these different worlds.

[identity profile] host-club-honey.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, alternate universes or just mixed up timelines? Either way, it sure doesn't sound good!

I can't give the exact time difference, but I know my memories go farther than any of my other friends' by at least a couple months.

But the weirdest thing about it is that our memories of what happened before don't really match up, either. By my reckoning, a friend of ours was killed some time ago, but another friend remembered him surviving and traveling with us instead. That's just one example -- I could make a whole list, really.

Five-hundred years and several reincarnations.

Including incarnations that shouldn't co-exist, along with beings who have already died.

To make things interesting.

[identity profile] opposingheaven.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. That's a pretty long time even by my standards. And I'd be happy to meet up sometime.

The longest gap that this one has encountered is fourteen years. After that, five years. After that, several months.

One of my friends classmates has memories from a week or two ahead of mine. My close friend didn't say how far ahead of me she was, but it's farther than me and the first classmate. I'll have to ask her again for more details. Will post an update if I get one.

[identity profile] justanimpulse.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I've got a friend here who came here from a few months into my future. And then there's another one who hasn't met me yet. I haven't talked to them enough to figure out what the time difference is, exactly. Oh, and another guy who's from an alternate dimension. He's kind of like the person I knew, but a bunch of stuff in his past happened differently, and I know people in my dimension who apparently don't exist in his, or at least he hasn't met them, even though he knows them really well in my dimension. He didn't know me either, even though we're related. Whatever's going on here, it's pretty freaky.

There are people being brainwashed?

[identity profile] justanimpulse.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Second cousins, I think. Though my grandmother was adopted, so I guess it's not really a blood relation? But yeah, we're family.

That's...that's really awful. So you think there might possibly be some kind of lasting effect? How many people has this happened to?

[identity profile] violent-varmint.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Two of us have memories ending at about the same time - only a week or two apart. The other two have memories about three years before, and if all involved are to be believed there are some major differences between our memories of the events.

The biggest I've had was about two years, but... what do you mean by "after-effects" from brainwashing? Has somebody shown some?

[identity profile] haplesstracker.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
Two and a bit years, I think.

[identity profile] wantsyourzex.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
Two of my companions have memories that go a couple years into the future, while the last is somewhat close to where my own end.

One of them remembers seeing me die. My memories stop at that point, and his continue.
