What do people usually do?

And yeah, the human body requires a variety of nutrients in order to function properly. Vitamins which are usually gained from vegetables and fruit, and proteins from meats and dairy products. There are also things like minerals (calcium and whatever) which can also be gained through either. A good source of calcium is fish or milk.

Without the full spectrum of vitamins, the body will weaken and eventually get ill. For example, vegetarians who only eat plant matter are often lacking in certain proteins found only in certain meats. They often have to take supplementary pills to account for the lack in their diet. On the other hand, a person who only eats meat usually encounters heart disease and other problems from the lack of necessary vitamins in vegetables and fruits.

...which is a really long winded way of saying, eat the basic food groups or you'll end up with a really big doctor bill.
