(no subject)

I've been informed that there are some dangers here at night. Would anyone mind giving me some examples?

Also, has anyone heard of a place called Gotham City?

Examples? There's monsters! All sorts of them - from bats to giant hulking... things. And sometimes some of the the patients are brainwashed to turn against the rest of us.

...What, like Batman?

[identity profile] manhattan-red.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
I... don't know. I didn't get a very good look.

Well, maybe not the city. That's the name of the comic, though, right?

[identity profile] manhattan-red.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Real? What, seriously? I know the franchise has been around a few decades, but I don't think he's actually real. Are we talking about the same Batman? Funny mask with the bat ears... Bat-signal... fancy car...

There was more than a comic, I think. That's just the original. There was that really cheesy live action show in the 50s... or was it the 60s? I think there were a couple movies... maybe an animated series... One of my brothers would know more about it, but he isn't here.

[identity profile] manhattan-red.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
No, I know he definitely lived in Gotham. That was the fictional city made up just for that series. Like Metropolis for Superman, you know?

It sells everywhere. At least everywhere in the US. I came from a place rather... stuck in the past before I got to New York and even I've heard of it now. Batman and Superman are the most well-known superheroes out there.

If you're dreaming, I hope I am too. I haven't told you anything I think isn't true, so it doesn't matter to me if you believe me. You asked!

[identity profile] manhattan-red.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if it helps you any, and I'm not really the one to ask 'cause it still confuses me, people talk a lot about the patients here being from different worlds. In the physical sense.

[identity profile] son-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
You're not dreaming, they're real places.

Gotham isn't fictional. Now, I haven't been there personally, but it's a real place. And Metropolis is real too - I've been there before and it's as real as New York.

...Look, whatever. Maybe I'm wrong. I'd just always figured they were fictional cities.

Given my own situation, I guess I should know better.

[identity profile] akarusa.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
I know about Gotham from comic books and TV, too; don't feel bad.

A friend of mine here knows about ME from a manga, so... keep an open mind, I guess. :-)

[identity profile] manhattan-red.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I know exactly what a manga is...

[identity profile] akarusa.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Uh--Japanese comic book. Sorry, I'm still not sure what translates and what doesn't!

[identity profile] manhattan-red.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! I see, sorry. I haven't delved much into that area of geekery yet, but I'm sure my brothers would pull me into it sooner or later.

[identity profile] jokers-wildcard.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Pfft. You're telling me! You want danger, try meeting one of those giant white bug things they've got crawling around this joint. That thing almost ate us! These docs need some pest control stat. *underlined several times to accentuate*

Gotham? Yeah, I got transferred from Gotham few days ago. Not too many other people heard of it, though.

Well, I couldn't really see the thing all that well. Just that it was kinda white and had a bunch of legs. The room was almost pitch black. That's the thing that really bugs me. They've got power outages every night, so you can get out of your room, but you can't see squat.

Yup! Sure is different from this place though.

You worked in Arkham? Hmmm. *something scribbled and crossed off* Yeah, sure. Don't see why not. It'd be good to see someone familiar for once even a doc. They've got this big room called the Sunny Room or something. Can probably find me there.

Harley. Like harlequin. Be seeing you around then, doc-o. Look forward to it.

I've seen really big rats. Like, far bigger than they should be. And the staff appear to change at night and out of control, with needles.

I've heard of Gotham, but I haven't been there myself.

[identity profile] son-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
It was dark, but I'd say at least getting around house cat size. The staff...I don't know why they change, but I've seen a nurse transform from a normal person to a thing, with these blades on her arms.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head, hope it helped you.

- C.K.

[identity profile] captain-hunam.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
I've personally seen rodents and a beetle the length of my forearm-- longer for the rodents. An acquaintance of mine saw the nurses transform into monsters with his own eyes.

Never heard of Gotham, but that doesn't really surprise me.

[identity profile] captain-hunam.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
A little more: the beetle had a pretty nasty bite, from what I could tell. Stabbing its... is "carapace" the word for insects?... didn't do anything, but kicking it onto its back and stomping worked. In a messy, splattered bug-guts kind of way.

[Several old posts fell off the bulletin board during her searching, but Rukia finally located this post (http://community.livejournal.com/damned_bulletin/177546.html?#cutid1) and tacked it to Crane's question.]

You're very welcome. Please be careful at night.

Isn't Gotham out of a comic book or something?

And some people believe that Santa brings presents. Doesn't make them any saner.

[identity profile] his-singer.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Gotham? Yeah, I've heard of it. Though, I was more of a Marvel girl myself.

[identity profile] his-singer.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Batman is pretty well known from where I'm from. The entire universe from there is too. ... Actually, a new movie came out just last year about it. Haven't seen it, but I heard it was pretty popular.
