Pretty much the truth, yeah. You can be with someone for years, an' never figure out what they're like until they show their true colors. Way I figure it, though, there's always a bright side.
In your case, you didn't die when you found out he/she/it was a traitor. Means you can move on with that information an' decide how to deal with it. Not a tiny bonus, dude. -II
I've known people who seemed to be cowards, but when up against the wall fought as fiercely as people who oozed bravery and honor from their ears. Then, it's better than them not being what they seem, I think.
I've also known people who enslaved and conquered and seemed extremely evil by all standards, at first glance, but honestly thought they were saving the people they enslaved from destruction-- and, in a way, were, though they were doing it very stupidly.
On the other hand, some people are what they seem, even if they don't want you to see it.
I think that everyone has his or her reasons for playing a certain part, so to speak. Some people do it to fit in, or for fear that their true selves might be ridiculed, while others do it simply to survive, and still others for personal gain. I have seen all of these acts, and certainly played a few different parts in my life.
Why have you posted this note? Is it because you feel guilt for your own actions, or anger at the one who betrayed you?

(anon; elegant writing hard to disguise)
Perhaps it is not only the fault of the one who decieves, but of the one who expected deception.
