That's... odd. I'm currently speaking to someone I watched die, rather messily.

There's something weird going on with time stuff that's got nothing to do with the separation of souls from bodies. Like, the people I know here come from months after I was taken, even though I've only been here ten days. It's... weird.

I believe you. And I agree entirely on the "weird" part.

Aliens are unlikely, unless those aliens have the technology to alter souls, memories, and manuever in and out of the time without disrupting it.

As Abarai-fukutaicho says, this isn't the afterlife, either. We would know.

My guess is that whatever this is has been done by something that is independent from any of our universes.

Dunno about altering souls, but memories are a definite, and time's not entirely improbable-- not for the ones I'm thinking of, at any rate.

If it's independent from the universes of ANYONE here, how are we supposed to gather information about it and return to where we came?

That's the issue. The best we can do is pick up clues while we're here. If they start to match up with what someone's familiar with, then great. We can use that.

But it's best not to make assumptions and miss vital clues in an effort to force the pieces to fit together the way we want them to.

I meant intelligent species that evolved on other worlds. I know one species that was deeply involved in humanity's history for thousands of years, and while I hope they had nothing to do with this, it's not as unlikely as I'd like.

... Well, the ones I was talking about do bear something of a resemblance to humans, but I've also met everything from pain-worshipping spider aliens to talking fungi and plants, to these floaty bags of air from a planet with no surface. :) The universe has some amazing things.

Ha, perhaps. I suppose, in the most literal sense, I'm an alien now that I'm on Earth... if this is Earth.

Well, it kind of depends on what time line we're dealing with here. There are plenty of races that could do precisely this sort of thing, depending on when exactly we are. Sadly, we don't have a current date, universal or otherwise.

At most, the aliens back home turned people to salt. They weren't capable of capturing people, for that same reason. Dunno what kind of strange things you ran into.

About the weirdest aliens I've met were talking plants and fungi-- the plants were considerably more pleasant-- and these filmy gaseous creatures from a gas giant.

They were actually made of it, too, and they did that with a touch. Most of the time, the people got turned to salt. Some became like them, and a few people survived the encounter apparently unharmed. Less than all the patients we have here, at any rate.

...That could be why. My time is...really far off from that. Maybe they all died out, and any records got lost or something.

I wouldn't think the Slylandro died off; their individual lifespans ran thousands of years. But they were also very secluded, and most people wouldn't think to look for life on a gas giant, so they could easily have been forgotten.

But then, your universe and mine might not be the same. There's some theories about alternate timelines and dimensions...

Depends. Good interesting or bad interesting? There's a little bit of both, but mankind is still pretty much the same.

The human condition runs rampant yet? Well, there still BEING a mankind puts pretty much everything on the "good" side of interesting. :)

Still, bad interesting is also interesting. What trouble do we get into when we're older and not yet wiser?

Put shortly: war, science, religion, and Things We Don't Understand.

Remember the aliens? Count that as part of the trouble. Hell, my dad tried to conquer his fears by usurping GOD. Ended up killing a lot of people for it.

Religious and political groups manipulating each other, some humans being biologically engineered and ending up a bit unstable. Those religious and political groups causing a bunch of synthetic humans to start killing people at random. Also, the impending end of the universe. Same old, same old.

Same old, same old, indeed. Oh, people... will they never grow out of it?

Probably not, but I hope so.

Not common knowledge-- actually, they didn't make open contact with us until the early 2100s, when we joined an interstellar war. But they were most certainly around before then.

Aliens are a myth. As I was murdered by a trusted ~~frie~~ companion just before waking up here, I can only assume that we are in a hell dimension. I hope to prove myself wrong, though, by escaping and revenging myself on her (the girl who murdered me. Unjustly. In cold blood).

If I find a way out, I probably won't be able to help you. You'll be trapped here forever in screaming agony until you escape, too. It will most likely be horrible for you.

I've been fighting alongside alien allies for years, against an alien menace. They're no myth. Perhaps, where- or whenever you come from, they simply haven't made contact with humanity yet?
