Game I:
99*8*109=?
90*8*72=?

t = 5h

Incompletes will be destroyed

[OOC Note: Sho is using Japanese number phonetics to ask rather basic questions. Using the first syllable of some of the pronunciations used for numbers, he uses 9 as "ko", 8 as "ha", 10 as "to", 0 as "re", 7 as "na" and 2 as "ni". This gives us "koko ha toko" or rather, "koko wa doko", meaning "where is this?" and "kore ha nani" or "kore wa nani", meaning "what is this?". So this should only make sense to characters who speak Japanese; if they know that much, it shouldn't be hard to figure out the code if they realize it's a code at all, especially if they're from the modern age.]

You could just ask normally, you know. This is Landel's Institute. If you search the bulletin, you'll see a primer posted that'll answer the rest of your questions.

[B has "helpfully" drawn an arrow to here (http://community.livejournal.com/damned_bulletin/438449.html). The rest of the message is in Japanese, which is not his "main" language.]

Do you normally communicate in this manner?

86328 and 51840.

I'm not sure what the point of your variables is.

Perhaps he wants the problems solved within the next five hours?

I suppose, although one could barely call these problems. It's the most rudimentary math.

It appears to have been intended as a cipher.

I see... if it's a human cipher, then I can understand why it escaped my notice.

Welcome to Landel's Institute for the Mentally Unstable. I'm sure you'll fit in just fine.

Let's see... Time is actually a good enough answer for the first question. Add 39 to an hour, then subtract 74 from a quarter of an hour.

The answer to the second equation is "x=6*0*12*4"

Though isn't it a bit harsh to destroy people for something like this?

((OOC: It took me far too long to come up with a suitable response, and even still, I feel quite outclassed- I really was impressed by yours. Anyway, the first answer is adding degrees to the minutes and seconds of latitude and longitude to arrive to a location roughly in New Jersey, while the second is a simple number-to-letter replacement for 'GAME'.))

Where's the fun in that? Besides, I was sure that you could have figured it out on your own. You just have that feel about you.

As for that... mm... it's impossible to say, actually.

What the hell are you putting math problems on this thing for?
